Abstract

A pulse modulator has been designed for use with the rf system of the Yale heavy ion accelerator. This unit combines the desirable features of a hydrogen thyratron with the versatility of a hard tube in a system of relatively low cost. The pulse has a rise time less than 1 μsec and a duration which is variable up to 3.5 msec. A pulse of 8.5 kv at 60 amp can be obtained with a duty cycle of 3.5%.
