Abstract
This <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">IEEE Control Systems</i> issue continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of dissipativity theory with a focus on the second part of Jan Willems’ 1972 article. “From the Editor” elaborates on the significance of that article, in particular the relevance of the relaxation property for today’s control theory. Guest editor Arjan van der Schaft has assembled seven articles for this special issue: “Dissipativity, Reciprocity, and Passive Network Synthesis: From the Seminal Dissipative Dynamical Systems Articles of Jan Willems to the Present Day,” by Timothy Hughes and Edward Branford; “Dissipative Dynamical Systems With Set-Valued Feedback Loops: Well-Posed Set-Valued Lur’e Dynamical Systems,” by Bernard Brogliato; “The Analysis of Optimization Algorithms: A Dissipativity Approach,” by Laurent Lessard; “Passive and Reciprocal Networks: From Simple Models to Simple Optimal Controllers,” by Richard Pates; “Dissipativity Theory in Game Theory: On the Role of Dissipativity and Passivity in Nash Equilibrium Seeking,” by Lacra Pavel; “Dissipativity and Integral Quadratic Constraints: Tailored Computational Robustness Tests for Complex Interconnections,” by Carsten Scherer; and “Data-Driven Dissipativity Analysis: Application of the Matrix S-Lemma,” by Henk Van Waarde, Kanat Camlibel, Paolo Rapisarda, and Harry Trentelman. The seven articles are described in the introductory article by guest editor Arjan van der Schaft.
