Abstract

Apparent mean corrosion rates of 0.16 and 0.10 mil/year of grey cast iron have been found in soil of pH 7.8 containing carbonate and traces only of soluble chloride, sulphate and nitrate. These were the findings resulting from investigations made after the removal of two grey cast iron lamp standards (Fig. 1) from a position about 170 ft above sea‐level in Surrey.
