Abstract

A 50-year-old man with a history of diverticulosis, hypertension, and anxiety presented to the emergency department with acute epigastric abdominal pain over the preceding 6 hours. Pain was described as stabbing in the epigastrium that radiated posteriorly to the mid-back. He had associated decreased appetite and nausea but no vomiting. He had a history of alcohol use disorder and was consuming about 12 beers daily over the past 3 years before presentation.
