Abstract

Frederick's confidence in his son was strengthened by a series of good reports on his progress including one from Boden and it is clear that Archie steadily assumed more and more responsibility for the company's affairs. As the company was to remain under family control from 1911 to 1947 it is these years that is now been outlined while its later history is only briefly mentioned. The retirement of its founder left the three ongoing partners with many problems. Many other high-tech developments including major roles in the aviation and automobile industries also emerged as significant growth areas for the company and provided the basis for future diversification into Australia, the United States and the UK. It will be appreciated, therefore, that Frederick Cornes' progress was based on strong family support which provided the basic foundation for his successful career. Keywords: Archie; automobile industry; aviation industry; Frederick Cornes
