Abstract
On the night of 6 August 1944, the Japanese Army left the Fena farm for Agana where the Japanese Army believed that the Division Headquarters were situated. The Japanese Army were intending to go there via the east coast of the island and Pago near the central east coast. On 7 August 1944, the Japanese Army returned to the river to head down towards its mouth in the east. After dark, the Japanese Army arrived at the village of Talofofo. There, Shigeji Shimizu cooked a sort of gruel from tapioca powder. The Army had to look for the division headquarters to receive their orders and struggled through the jungle by creeping through foxtail grass fields. The Inaba Platoon, about thirty strong, returned to Talofofo. It was decided that Lieutenant Inaba would lead a team and the author would lead Takeo Unno, Masazumi Yamauchi, Norio Nagao and Shigeji Shimizu.Keywords: Captain Tsuchiya; foxtail grass fields; Inaba Platoon; igeji Shimizu
