Abstract

The mechanism of fabric shrinkage from hydrophilic fibers is explained using a geometrical model. The relationship between yarn and fabric shrinkage is discussed. The prediction of fabric shrinkage is made by considering changes in yarn diameter and length due to swelling, fabric geometry and crimp balance. Practical applications of modeling fabric shrinkage are given.
