Abstract

This chapter looks at work in Modern European Philosophy published in 2011 and is focused specifically on a series of texts that explicitly mark themselves as oriented towards a relabelling or rethinking of European philosophy’s tendency to reduce reality or matter to some preceding textual condition. With the exception of Jean-François Lyotard’s Discours, Figure (which translates a magisterial work from 1971), the translations of the work of Alain Badiou, Giorgio Agamben, Bernard Stiegler, Catherine Malabou and Roberto Esposito are recent and, like the collection of essays on the new movement of speculative realism, evidence a disenchantment with linguistic or poststructuralist approaches and proclaim a ‘turn’ in philosophy adequate for the complexities of the twenty-first century.
