Abstract
This chapter is concerned mainly with how Mozambique is handling challenges and strategies on migration management. It is based on empirical evidence from fieldwork that have been recently undertaken on migration, gender and urbanisation in Mozambique, together with some numerical data- from written information or from the Internet. The chapter seeks to analyse migration management strategies as well as the challenges that policy makers have exposed. It highlights the assertion that migration serves as a significant source of income for origin communities. Based on primary sources and secondary sources, the chapter explores potential relationships between migration, development and management. In doing so, it looks for trends in international and regional migration from Mozambique, which consists of a small exodus to Europe and North America, and- importantly-a massive exodus to southern African countries, namely South Africa, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Malawi.
