Abstract

Abstract This paper describes p-nitrobenzyl pyridine as a chromogenic spray reagent for detection of organophosphate pesticides on paper and thin layer chromatograms. The chromogenic spray is equally sensitive for thio and nonthio organophosphate pesticides. All 20 organophosphate pesticides tested on paper and thin layer chromatograms gave distinct and persistent spots with the spray procedure. The lower sensitivity limit is 0.5 μg of pesticide on paper chromatograms and 0.5–2.0 μg of pesticide on thin layer chromatograms.
