Abstract

pressure and sprayed with water at the same temperature as the vessel; the other experiment was with the vessel filled with saturated steam at 100°C and 150°C and sprayed with cold water. The rate of removal of the organic iodides was determined by analyzing the concentration in the gas phase by means of gas-liquid chromatography. The washout rate can be expressed by a first order equation in the first experiment, and the second resulted in data nearly consistent with the curve calculaed from rate constants obtained in the first experiment. The rate of removal of methyl iodide by spray increased with decreasing temperature and in proportion to the spray rate.
