Abstract

While cardiac ventricle assist devices (VAD) as bridges to transplant (BTT) and destination therapies (DT) are advancing technical, medical and surgical supports for end stage heart disease collateral ethical advances have not occurred. The increasing use of elective or emergent VADs are creating unique ethical issues. This is a 12 point patient protocol to reduce potential ethical dilemmas.
