Abstract

Heart transplantation (HT) remains the tretament of choice in patients with end-satge heart failure. Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) is the major cause of death after the first year of HT. Althought CAV is thought to be multifactorial in origin it is primarily an immune mediated disease. When CAV is diagnosed by coronary angiography usually the disease is fare advanced. There is a need to develop and test, non-invasive surrogate markers capable of its early detection.The main objective of this study is the assessment of immunological markers as mediators of CAV development.
