Abstract

Like many Indigenous peoples, the Cree communities of James Bay Northern Quebec have a high prevalence of type 2 diabetes (DM2) with a young age of onset. More than one-quarter of adults 20 years and older have DM2 with an average age at diagnosis being 42.2 years. Health-care workers (HCWs) on the territory have various levels of experience managing diabetes. The Cree are dispersed in 9 communities across a vast territory, which is a challenge to centralizing diabetes management structures.
