Abstract

Background: Heart transplantation is the most efficient and successful therapeutic procedure for end stage heart failure, but several limitations such as primary graft failure, acute graft rejection and chronic allograft vasculopathy still remain to be overcome. To facilitate the application of adenoviral gene therapy in clinical heart transplantation, we developed an ex vivo hypothermic recirculatory adenoviral gene transfer method to the transplanted pig heart.
