Abstract

A method for the determination of lactose in milk based on clarification with dialysed iron and oxidation of the filtrate with alkaline ferricyanide solution, followed by titration with sulphato-ceric acid, is proposed. It is simple, rapid and well adapted to the routine estimation of lactose in milk or to the determination of small quantities of lactose. The conditions of the reactions and comparison of results with other methods are discussed.
