Abstract
Previous work suggests that in some individuals there exists a positive feedback relationship between mood and valuation -- unexpected rewards elevate mood, and in a better mood, rewards seem even better than they would otherwise be (and vice versa for bad moods and losses). Such positive feedback constitutes a principal cause of instability, suggesting a potential explanation for mood instability in disorders like cyclothymia and bipolar disorder.
