Abstract

We have developed two types of relative-story-displacement (RSD) sensors for structural health monitoring of buildings against earthquakes. We have carried out the shaking table tests to evaluate the basic performance of the sensors, and verified that both sensors fulfill the required specifications. Next, we have carried out the forced vibration tests on an actual three-story building. Through the analyses of the measurement records from sensors, both sensors can measure the RSDs accurately. On the other hand, we have confirmed that the local rotation of the beam at the sensor's location influence their measurements.
