Abstract

A 44-year-old woman was admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) with suspected toxic ingestion, hyperkalemia, and metabolic acidosis. Her history is notable for previous suicidal attempts, generalized anxiety disorder, postpartum depression, and alcohol use disorder. The patient denied any current medications, although she was prescribed a daily multivitamin, 900 mg of gabapentin at bedtime and 100 mg of thiamine daily. Reportedly, last contact was with her ex-husband, who noticed acute changes in mental status after a relationship dispute.
