Abstract

Automotive applications require suppressing EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) noise in order to avoid interference with other electrical components, and the specification is much tighter than mobile applications. Currently, in‐cell touch LCDs are widely seen in the market especially in mobile phone applications, which are integrating touch panel function in the display due to the simple structure of in‐cell touch LCDs. However, in‐cell touch LCDs generally emit higher EMI noise than LCDs with discrete touch panels, since the LCD surface area cannot be covered by electrical shield layer with in‐cell touch architecture while it can be in a discrete touch panel. Therefore, EMI is a critical issue when using in‐cell touch LCDs for automotive applications. For this paper we introduce driving techniques for in‐cell touch LCD which mitigate EMI for automotive applications in order to pass the criteria of automotive application without deterioration of picture image quality.
