Abstract

Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is one of power generation cycles from low-temperature heat sources. This paper reports experimental results of ORC system coupled with latent heat storage (LHS) tank. When the ORC system is connected to time-varing heat sources such as waste heat from automobile and solar energy, the heat stored in LHS tank contributes to leveling of output power of ORC.Fundamental experiment was conducted by mini-ORC system with output power below 200 watts with heat source temperature ranging from 70 to 90°C and cold source with 10°C. LHS tank was filled by capsules containing mixture of Li(NO3) and Mg(NO3)2・6H2O as phase change material (PCM). The results indicate that LHS tank affects dynamic characteristic of ORC system and has a potential as thermal buffer to stabilize output power of ORC.
