Abstract

This study aims at achieving drastic computation time reduction of the brain shift simulation for future clinical applications by developing a new finite element brain model. The new hemispherical brain model without right cerebral hemisphere which makes little impact on brain shift is proposed. The equivalent force boundary conditions are derived and then applied to the cross section of the proposed model. The brain shift analysis using the proposed model successfully achieved up to 63% reduction of computation time comparing with that using the whole model. The results obtained by the both models were good agreement with each other.
