Abstract

Relative sensitivities and pumping speeds of the Redhead vacuum gauge for N2, He, H2, O2 and CO2 were determined. In finding relative sensitivities, equilibrium was maintained between the gas pumped by the Redhead gauge and a Bayard-Alpert ionization gauge (used as a monitor) and gas admitted through a controlled leak. A knowledge of the sensitivities of the Bayard-Alpert gauge to the gases in question permitted calculation of relative Redhead gauge sensitivities. Pumping speeds were computed for these gases in the usual way by making use of the slopes of the p vs. t curves obtained using only the Redhead gauge with the controlled leak closed.
