Abstract

Objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness and necessity of national program “Men’s health”. The first stage of national program was screening of men population in 2005-2006 years. We examined 25 000 men and 28 000 men – workers of heavy metal industry. The second stage was the development of Days of Men’s Health in every region of Kazakhstan. On this days, all men went through laboratory examination and listened lections on how to preserve their sexual health. Next step of program was the development and integration of School of Men’s Health, where the doctors were learned to examine men with sexual dysfunctions. The screening showed that from 25 000 men, 56.3% had erectile dysfunction (ED), 44.2% had sexually transmitted infections and 30.4% suffered from male infertility. From 15 491 workers of oil industry, sexual dysfunction was revealed in 63.5% and from 12 978 workers of nonferrous metallurgy – 53.2%. Such a high prevalence of different sexual disorders made us to provide the open Days of Men’s Health. From 2009-2012 years 3563 men and 458 boys were examined. Among 3563 men, benign prostate hyperplasia had 34%, chronic prostatitis – 20%, testosterone deficiency – 37.3%, hypogonadism – 13.6%, arterial hypertension -15.4%, diabetes – 7.1%, ED – 16.5%. In 458 boys under 16 years, different pathologies (hypospadias, epispadias, cryptorchidism and others) were found in 90.3%. To raise awareness among the male population about sexual health care, more than 80 lectures were read. From 2013-2015 the Schools of Men’s Health provided education courses and training for primary care physicians on multidisciplinary approach to diagnostics and treatment of disease of men’s reproductive organs. Multidisciplinary approach included examination of urologist, endocrinologist, venerologist, cardiologist, psychologist and others. Analyzing the situation, it was evident that it was necessary to create a “Center of Men’s Health and Family Longevity” in every region of the country. The first such center was opened in 2009, and today the number of such centers has increased to 14. Over 8 years, in the centers of men's health, more than 190 thousand men were examined.
