Abstract

Macroscopic characteristics of diesel spray such as spray penetration, spray radius, spray volume, mass of entrained air and overall equivalence ratio, has been investigated for impinging diesel spray on a ring wall. The spray characteristics were measured by analyzing spray images taken by the shadow photography. Experiments were performed with changing ambient pressure and injection pressure using a constant volume vessel, and the effects of the ambient pressure and the injection pressure on the spray characteristics of the wall impinging spray were clarified. Moreover, empirical equation of spray penetration for diesel spray impinging on a flat wall were modified and adapted to the experimental results obtained in this study. Then, applicability of the empirical equation of the spray characteristics were evaluated.
