Abstract
The 2008 National Patient Safety Goals require hospitals to develop rapid response systems (RRS). Most RRS teams in large academic teaching hospitals have been staffed by intensivists. We describe a staffing model using emergency medicine (EM) that we believe is unique to medical emergency teams (METs) in academic teaching hospitals.
