Abstract

The development of cement and cement based, concrete and concrete based composites for industrial applications are reported in this chapter. It has focused on the types of cements which includes Portland, white, blended, supersulfated, high alumina cements; mechanism of hydration of cement and different properties of the cement like strength, permeability, porosity, elastic modulus shrinkage, and creep. This chapter also dealt with manufacturing process and properties of concrete like strength, Poisson’s ratio, coefficient of expansion, creep, shrinkage, durability, and corrosion. This chapter has also given insight on manufacturing and properties of short/long fiber reinforced cement and concrete composites which includes bond strength, toughness in uniaxial tension, fracture mechanism, and principles of fiber reinforcement. It has also dealt with manufacturing, durability, and applications glass and fiber reinforced cement, wood, and vegetable fiber reinforced cement, poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber reinforced cement. This chapter has also focused on manufacturing, durability, and applications of PVA reinforced concrete and steel fiber reinforced concrete.
