Abstract

The objective of the present study is to investigate both the melting heat transfer characteristics and the flow characteristics of ice-slurry which flows through the curved rectangular duct being heated by its convex or concave wall. We adopted a mixture of fine ice particles and ethylene-glycol aqueous solution as a testing ice-slurry. The most important part of this study was that the heat transfer characteristics on the curved wall of the flow channel was markedly affected by the latent heat of ice particles of the ice-slurry. In case of convex heated wall, it was shown that higher heat transfer coefficient was obtained at lower velocity condition of ice-slurry flow due to the ice accumulation on the heated wall.
