Abstract

Recently machinery safety standard is introduced and risk-based design is required besides ordinary functional design. ISO and JIS standard of machinery safety are based on risk assessment and to describe the risk involved in the machinery. Probabilistic safety or risk assessment is done as is done in the nuclear industry. Through risk assessment risk is identified, evaluated and then safety countermeasures are taken to reduce risk to tolerable level. The result of risk assessment and residual risk are presented to user to take further additional countermeasure. Thus integral safety is maintained from manufacturer or supplier. To user and safety or risk information is fed back through so called PDCA cycle.
