Abstract

Background: Diagnostic laparoscopy, if routinely performed before exploratory laparotomy for patients with known or suspected gallbladder carcinoma (GBC), reduces both unnecessary laparotomies and length of hospital stay. Aim was to devise a selection criteria for GBC patients who will benefit from open surgery and thus reduce the number of patients undergoing unnecessary laparotomy.
