Abstract

Radiolabeled folate, retrieved from maternal blood, resides primarily in the placenta and fetal liver in early gestation. Although modalities of folate uptake in the placenta have been described, folate uptake in the fetal liver has yet to be similarly characterized. This study aims to describe the differential expression of four proteins involved in folate transport in the fetal liver during early gestation: folate receptor-1 (FOLR1), mitochondrial folate transporter (SLC25A32), proton-coupled folate transporter (SLC46A1), and reduced folate carrier (SLC19A1).
