Abstract

A simplified numerical simulation model to evaluate the head acceleration and the neck stress on an occupant at rear end collision is presented. This model represents a seat, seat belts and a human body with their interaction effects by 2D frame elements. Based on this model, the effects of the seat stiffness and the effects of the position of the gap between the seat and a human body to the head acceleration and the neck stress are examined with a series of numerical simulation. As a result, a possibility to reduce neck stress of an occupant at the rear end collision is shown.
