Abstract

Adult degenerative scoliosis is increasingly being diagnosed in patients over the age of 70. The need for surgical intervention continues to increase in symptomatic patients with the aging population. Management strategy includes conservative management, although when this fails, surgical intervention is typically recommended. A thorough workup prior to undertaking surgical intervention is needed to minimize complications. Furthermore, bone health should be optimized to reduce complications related to hardware failure and proximal junctional kyphosis in this patient population.
