Abstract

It is known that fractal Parany monopoles are multiband antennas. It has also been reported that a kind of them owns asymmetric and pseudo-self-complementary geometry. According to our research, only the two-stage version of this kind of antenna has been studied without showing its working principles. In this letter, we measure and simulate the reflection coefficient from the four-stage version of this monopole by means of finite-difference time domain (FDTD), in order to evidence that the proposed antenna actually shows a size reduction in comparison to the corresponding traditional Parany monopole one. The proposed antenna log-periodic performance and radiation mechanism are explained by means of a detailed analysis of its simulated current distribution, gain, radiation pattern, and near magnetic field. Furthermore, five bandwidths are obtained in the measured spectrum, ergo, one more than for the symmetrical traditional Parany one.
