Abstract

Direct energy deposition (DED) is one of the prominent additive manufacturing techniques gained lot of interest in the recent past due to its direct relevance and application in the remanufacturing industry. One of the important aspects is the material’s development and process-related challenges, which are key to any application. In this review, a brief introduction to the DED and its applications presented. Also, different important metallic materials such as Al alloys, steels, Ti alloys, and Ni alloys processed through DED were reviewed to understand microstructure and related mechanical properties.
