Abstract

This chapter of the book State Support for Religious Education provides Report of the Royal commission on Education in Ontario (The Hope Report) for the chapter Educational Scene, Aims of Education, and Origin and Development of Separate Schools in Ontario, and the report of the commission on private schools in Ontario. The aims as well as the organization and administration of education have always been influenced by social, geographic and economic conditions. The most difficult lesson to be learned about education is that the criterion of quantity has served its purpose with the establishment of free elementary and secondary education for all children of all the people. The chapter records the efforts to think through and express in simple terms some of the problems of education.Keywords: educational scene; hope report; Ontario; private schools
