Abstract
The title compound, C21H20O8, is the mixed orthocarbonic acid ester of the alcohol components benzene-1,2-diol and 4,6-O-benzylidene-1-O-methyl-α-d-glucopyranoside. The compound represents the first example of a structurally characterized carbohydrate ester of orthocarbonic acid. Both oxacyclic six-membered rings in the structure adopt a chair conformation. The puckered five-membered ring at the spiro centre is present in a twist conformation. No special interactions are observed in the molecular packing.
