Abstract

AbstractOrganizers of INCOSE International Symposium 2004 posed six themes regarding the future of systems engineering. In response a panel, “Evolving to Intelligent Systems Engineering,” took a position on each theme based on ideas already being explored in the Intelligent Enterprises Working Group, IEWG. Four panelists supported, or not, 23 specific assertions regarding the six themes. During the ninety minute session vigorous interaction with the panel audience occurred. At the end, 67 attendees kindly completed a poll designed to gauge the degree of consensus with the 23 assertions. The poll results are reported and analyzed in this paper. Also included are responses to the same poll by a voluntary subset of 18 INCOSE Fellows prior to the panel session. These results highlight several possibilities regarding the future of systems engineering for consideration by SE practitioners and educators.
