3rd International Symposium on Earth Observation for Arid and Semi-Arid Environments (ISEO 2016)

Abstract

PrefaceThe 3rd International Symposium on Earth Observation for Arid and Semi-arid Environments (ISEO 2016) was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan from September 19 to 21, 2016. The theme of this symposium was "Earth Observation for the Great Silk Road".ISEO 2016 was organized by the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RADI) and hosted by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (ASRT). More than 80 experts and scholars from nine countries and regions had attended the symposium. This volume contains selected papers contributed by the participants.The purpose of the symposium is to further exchange experiences on the use of Earth observation technologies among the Central Asian and neighboring countries. In 2012, the 1st symposium in this series was initiated in Kashgar by RADI, CAS. The 2nd symposium was held in 2014 in Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan. Since then, an international network has been established preliminarily to promote cooperation on Earth observation for arid and semi-arid environment, especially in Central Asia and neighboring regions.ISEO 2016 had provided a scientific platform to discuss and explore better scientific approaches to global sustainable development in the Belt and Road region through Earth observation technologies.
