Abstract

A 3D structured RGO–AgNWs/EP composite was prepared which composed of 1D silver nanowires and 2D reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets. It was found that the electromagnetic wave absorption ability of pure RGO in the matrix was constrained by the agglomeration and defective conductive network. The results show that the addition of silver nanowires significantly enhanced the complex effective permittivity of the composites. Importantly, the absorbing properties can be controlled by the amount of silver nanowires interspersed between the layers of RGO. Besides, a representative sample with only 1% graphene sheets and 15% silver nanowires exhibited a prominent performance whose minimum peak value was up to − 33.2 dB at 11.5 GHz and the corresponding bandwidth was 3.3 GHz with a layer of 1.8 mm. Therefore, the 3D structured RGO–AgNWs assembly has a bright prospect in lightweight and high-performance microwave absorbers.
