Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a transformative approach to industrial application. It is a new digital technology of the sequential layering of materials to create three-dimensional shapes from a digital 3D model. This technology uses computer-aided design (CAD) software for the production of desired physical models by adding materials layer by layer manner. It has numerous applications in the automobile industry, aerospace industry, and others. However, in the current circumstances, additive manufacturing plays an essential role in the biomedical field. It is a flexible and eco-friendly method for fabricating geometrically complicated shapes finding application in healthcare sectors. Additive manufacturing delivers immense customizable and patient-specific body parts, an altered solution for every patient. This paper rigorously reviewed the common printing biomaterials used in 3D printing for different biomedical fields and briefly highlighted the application of additive manufacturing in tissue engineering, dentistry, medical devices, customized implants, and drug delivery. It will be helpful to the new researchers in this field to explore various additive manufacturing processes and challenges of 3D printing technology in the biomedical field.
