Abstract
This paper explains a method to evaluate the bending stress at the root of Asymmetric Involute spur Gear using 3dimensional Photoelasticity method. Profiles of an asymmetric gear tooth on drive side and coast side have different pressure angles. The method ISO/TC-60 has been used to theoretically calculate the bending stresses. 3D CAD model of the said gear is generated in CATIA V5 R15 and the Finite Element Analysis is carried out in ANSYS 14.5. Three dimensional photoelasticity method has been used to evaluate the bending stresses, experimentally, at the tooth root of the gear. Finite Element analysis of Symmetric and Asymmetric Spur gear tooth has been carried out to estimate the change in bending strength owing to the asymmetry. The work also includes the comparison between the stress values obtained by theoretical, Experimental and FE method.
