Abstract
Hydrothermal reactions of Ln(NO 3) 3 (Ln = La, Eu) with 1,4-phenylenedipropionic acid (H 2PDP) generate 3D coordination polymers with the empirical formula [Ln 2(PDP) 3(H 2O) 2]. The isostructural compounds crystallize in triclinic space group P 1 ¯ . Each Ln(III) ion is nine-coordinate through ligation to one water molecule and eight carboxylate oxygen atoms. The 3D network structure of [Ln 2(PDP) 3(H 2O) 2] consists of infinite 1D Ln(H 2O)–OOC secondary building units (SBUs) that are cross-linked via –CH 2CH 2C 6H 4CH 2CH 2– tethers of the PDP anions.
