Abstract

3D gaze estimation in real world environment provides many advantages for human computer interaction, assistive technology, advertising, and marketing. Orientation of user sight in horizontal, vertical, and depth direction is important to demonstrate focus and attention toward object of interest. However, 3D gaze tracking system in real world environment typically uses head-mounted device that reduces user convenience with conventional Perspective Geometric algorithm. To improve user convenience, we propose an accurate 3D gaze tracking method in real world environment using Orthographic projection for remote eye tracking system. The proposed method shows promising results, by average gaze estimation errors 0.837 ± 0.706 cm, 1.820 ± 1.261 cm, and 2.899 ± 1.148 cm, in X, Y, and Z axis, respectively. The proposed method is superior compared with conventional Perspective Geometric method, thus opening wider possibility for various interaction design in real world environment.
