Abstract

This paper discusses the stresses induced by eccentric or oblique forces acting on an implant during implant restoration. The alveolar bone model containing cortical bone and cancellous bone was constructed by using CT scan pictures and Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. The finite element software ANSYS was employed to perform the stress analysis on FRIALIT®‐2SYNCHRO implants carrying occlusive loads. The simulation results indicate that stress level varies linearly with the bending moment in alveolar bone. Both eccentric distance of load and inclined angle are key factors in the induced bending moment. Maximum stress of cortical bone is usually found in the area close to the neck of the implant.
