Abstract
The basic idea of the Metaverse is that users act considering their own goals using avatar characters in virtual space. It has been recently highlighted as a new form of media, and many people therefore use it. Moreover, a variety of research on it has been conducted. The Metaverse is often embodied based on 3D content. Its space and characters all are created by computer graphics, and creators of 3D production technology strive to enhance the degree of realism. Such 3D technology is expected to be applied to the Metaverse and therefore may make a significant contribution to its development. This study aims to examine the technical developments of 3D animations, to propose factors that can be applied to enhance the presence of this technology, and suggest possible developmental orientations of the Metaverse. Previous research on the presence of the Metaverse was investigated and the current Metaverse was analyzed and categorized. In particular, the virtual world should have a sense of realism related to the vision and depends on the communication among users and environmental control. Taken together, the findings suggest the following developmental orientations of the Metaverse: 1) it would strengthen visual amusements by pursuing a form of hyper reality, 2) it would continuously plan and develop new forms of experiences, and 3) it would develop a third type of media combined with new technologies, including block-chain NFT and Web 3.0, among others. This study presents open research directions for the production of content relevant to the Metaverse.
