Abstract

The aim was to investigate the predictive ability of self-reported depression on the level of sexual satisfaction and male and female sexual function. main outcome measures were: self report of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, high cholesterol, high lipids, depression, heart disease, prostate hyperplasia, cancer, menopause problems and low testosterone, self rating of health status, age, academic level, socio-economic level, level of religiosity, and the scores of Hudson Sexual Satisfaction Index (SSI), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and International Index of Erectile Function. (IIEF) An online survey was conducted from May to July 2015. A total of 2876 participants agreed to the consent form, of which 2172 provided responses complete enough for the analysis (75.52 % response rate). The reliability of instruments was very good: Cronbach’s alpha = 0.936, 0.929 and 0.961 for the SSI, FSFI and the Erection domain of the IIEF (ED-IIEF). Data was analyzed using SPSS for windows version 15, i differences in means of SSI, FSFI and the IIEF with independent samples t-test between depression and no depression, and stepwise multiple regression models for SSI , FFSI and ED-IIEF.
