Abstract
Oesophageal cancer is preferably treated by surgical resection with curative intent. Mainstay of oncological surgery is a microscopically radical resection. Endoscopic ultrasonography, CT-scanning and bronchoscopy are essential diagnostic tools for exclusion of T4-tumours. Distant dissemination can be detected by combined PET-CT scanning.
