Abstract
This paper proposes a new schematic model of a jet-curtain for hovering flight over water. The theoretical analysis is made for perfect (nonviscous) fluids. The numerical results of this analysis are compared to the experimental results given by a bi-dimensional full-scale model. Referring to this comparison and to the observation of the flow patterns on the real model, the theoretical analysis is qualitatively extrapolated to the region of viscous fluids. The presence of the double jet-curtain effect in flight over water is verified. The mechanism of spray generation and the feature of the vortex pattern in the vicinity of the peripheral jet are explained. The results of the analysis allow the evaluation of the performances of the perpheral-jet air cushion vehicle in hovering flight over water.
