Abstract

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated systemic skin disorder with a strong genetic predisposition. The gene expression of the psoriasis susceptibility gene Nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2) is specifically upregulated in psoriatic involved skin. NOS2 catalyses the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), a short-lived free radical and pivotal signaling molecule with both pro- and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, we have investigated the functional relevance of NOS2 expression in psoriasis. Using qPCR, we found that NOS2 mRNA was strongly expressed in the epidermis of psoriatic involved skin compared to healthy skin.
